It is particularly bad in light of the fact that the teller specifically warned her that she was being recorded. Also, as someone else on twitter said, anytime you start a rant with the equivalent of "Do you know who I am?" it's not a good thing.

It's one of those "If I do something idiotic in my off work hours, should my employer hold it against me" moments. As with all things, it's never particularly clear cut.

When part of your employment is based on a "public persona," however, I would suggest you're employer will be very concerned about how your private persona affects that. McHenry is paid to look good on camera and, by that, I am not talking just about her physical appearance. ESPN pays her, in large part, to be knowledgeable, well-spoken and generally likable on camera. As such, while I agree that firing would have been pretty drastic, I also don't think it would be outrageous for an employer in ESPN's position to fire an on- air persona after such a rant. A large portion of their customer base probably fits within the demographic that Ms. McHenry dismisses so brutally. Quite frankly, I think she should consider herself incredibly fortunate to have been suspended for only a week. Further, if I was ESPN, I would demand a much better apology than the rough equivalent of "I am sorry I was mean but I was having a bad day."

I really don't know much about her as reporter. From what I have seen, she seemed to be a generally competent run of the mill on-air talent but lacking in any particularly great insights or analysis - in many ways, just another pretty face.

[From her tweets, I also got a strong impression that she suffers from a bad case PGD (Pretty Girl's Disease). Girls/Women with PGD are not necessarily stupid or mean, in fact, some are very smart and most are generally nice b/c the world is generally very nice to them - doors open magically, service is speedy, favors not even asked for are granted. They tweet about kindness and flowers and first world problems and are confused/hurt when the reality everyone else deals with hits them in the face.]

Bottom line, I am very disappointed in her. I thought we could have had something very special together. Now, I just don't know if it will ever work out between us. <sigh>
