BUT - one of the things that I did consider was if Dan Snyder was so angry over the RG3 situation that he really did decide to coach the team himself. I have often wondered why Dan hasn't done that, he has tried everything else.
Is it at least safe to assume that either Gruden or SM is on borrowed time over the RG3 situation??

I think the part of your equation that you are missing is the public perception. Dan very much cares about public perception of himself. Even though he stays out of the public eye, the times he chooses to talk to the media he tries to present a carefully crafted image of himself. He's even hired people (Tony Wyllie if memory serves) to rehab the image of himself and his team. If he actually went through with the "owner, gm, coach" scenario that would destroy any image rehab he has done the past few years. Firing a gm he literally just hired months ago? That would be insane, and make him look insanely foolish. The public perception of him is "worst NFL owner." He obviously doesn't want to keep that label, and he would be in the running for "worst NFL owner of all time" if he actually tried being a GM and/or the coach. Not trying to rag on you too hard bro, but I gotta call it like I see it.
