Re: Time to take the next Step: Skins vs kitty cats Pre-game thread
I used to get the Kool-Aid good feeling every week. Really. I was absolutely convinced we would win every week. After 2012, man, I knew we had turned the corner. I was beyond hyped. Then came 2013 and the crushing disappointment, back-biting, and assorted BS - and 3 wins. In 2014, I allowed myself to be positive at first. I defended the Gruden hire, the retention of Haslett, I believed in a resurgent RGIII. By the end of the season I was truly, truly done. I, a 40+ year fan, was done. I just couldn't get excited about them - at all. This was a franchise with no light at the end of the tunnel - just one with more and more tunnel.
Yes. They have improved some.
Yes. The drama seems to be (mostly) gone.
Yes. The talent acquisition process improved.
Yes. Long live Scot McC.
BUT ...
This is the Redskins. After 20+ seasons of abysmal to mediocre football with good football being the unsustainable anomaly, I have no trust that they will step up. They are starting a 27 year old QB who has a history of inconsistent play. In fact, despite his recent improvement and solid to really good play over the last three games, has - just this season - thrown a Romoesque pick six, been a turnover machine, had games and quarters within games where he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.
I am in full on Doubting Thomas mode. I'll believe it when I see it. I am he of little faith - because my faith has been sorely abused season after season, failure after failure. At the end of the season, they may be 7 to 9 win team. People will be excited about the improvement. They will give us just enough to feed the horrible addiction ... but then they will regress. Excuses will be made, a fresh start had, and the cycle of mediocrity and disappointment will continue on as we feed our addiction and line the pushers' pockets with our money.
We will lose Sunday. We may look good doing it, but we will lose.
