Kirk likely will have several suitors, and if we say, nope, you are our property so we are franchising you, he very well may decide to leave.

Still, if the team franchises him, we would have the space, probably would limit some options. The difference in cap numbers between a well structured 18-20 million 5-6 year contract and a franchise tag value of 19 million is probably about 6 million cap dollars so it would still be in the team's interest to get a reasonable long term contract done
