Simple as that.
If this benching had to do with spite or ego, it would be a hollow move, meaning that there would be no solid rationale behind it other than to feed Gibbs' ego. The very sound of that is absolutely ridiculous to me.
Gibbs and co. always have the team's best interests in mind. We may not know the entire story, but we can be sure there are solid reasons why LaVar is riding pine.
If you think otherwise, fine, but that tells me you really don't understand what Gibbs is all about.

How is it not about ego? I agree that part of it is what you said "
no individual player is above the goals of the team" but that's just another way of saying "
I'm the boss and I can bench you because I don't like your attitude. I don't care who you are". And honestly, if they think LaVar has become so disenchanted that he's not good for the team, fine, trade or release him, but don't feed me lines about his on field production as the reason for him not playing.
You all keep buying their BS because apparently coaches never cover up the truth and everything is just the way they say it is. Why then is Williams using the same reasons why he loved LaVar last year as his reasons for keeping him out of the lineup this year? And those of you who think that performance is the real reason he's not on the field(particularly FRPLG) please explain to me how Holdman has outperformed Arrington, because all I know about Holdman is he does an awesome Invisible Man impression.
