He chases the ball carrier from the back side like nobody else on the team.
He's heady and alert, he forces fumbles, and disrupts screens through recognition. He's not Von Miller, but he has a pretty quick first step, and is very powerful. He uses his hands well.
Most of all he's consistent. He's never missed a game, he rarely comes off the field, he has frequently moved inside to rush from the interior in nickel situations. He is our best defender not named Josh Norman.
I appreciate him greatly. Now, would he be the best pass rusher on a top 5 defense? Probably not - you would want a Khalil Mack or Von Miller or JJ Watt. But calling Kerrigan average is ignorant.
We're not a great defense yet, I hope McCloughan gets us there. But you guys need to stop and appreciate what we have. If you took Kerrigan off this team we'd be a bottom five defense, for sure.

Agreed. Great insight and solid points there. Not saying we can afford to lose him. Not even close. It would be devastating.
However, I think stats can be skewed. Situations affect them. There is a difference between a sack when a team needs a stop and a sack when a team is winning and the competition is weak. Based solely on my memory it feels like he has a habit of not showing up in big spots, or simply disappearing for long stretches.
Anyway I really am not a RK hater. I do appreciate him. I just wish he was more of a "difference maker". Lord knows we need one. Hope he goes on a tear and I have a crow overdose. I really do.
Didnt mean for my overrated comment to cause such a stir. I blame Chico for pointing out that Murph has been picking up for his poor play. It set me off. Lol.
