Ultraconservative Playcalling

We had the Football (albeit) relatively deep in our own territory with one minute 48 seconds on the clock, and a 7-6 lead just before the end of the first half. Was it a good decision at that time to just run out the clock (which we attempted to do) or to try and make a few plays in hopes of maybe getting into Field-Goal range and increasing the halftime lead to four points as opposed to one.

I came to the conclusion coaches may not have wanted to take any unneccessary chances just before the half and maybe giving KC the opportunity to get the lead before HT. What do you think?
