Build the D with the free agent/ draft coming up. We can win next year if we do it right. By the time your plan takes flight, (provided we even get the quarterback for it to take flight at all), Garcon, Davis, Trent, and several others will be either gone or in the twilight of their careers.

I see your point.
Imo, Cousins has wilted during the highest pressure games and that scares me. During the first two games of the season he played like he was afraid to make a mistake. In the two biggest games of his career (Panthers and Giants), with the playoffs on the line, he was a detriment to his team with turnovers. He has trouble making zone reads. Add to those facts, the rumors that McVay would radio to Cousins who to throw the ball to presnap... It puts me on the fence about giving him franchise money. Look past the fact he is a nice guy and the DC media loves him.
Gruden made Andy Dalton look good. You replace DJax with Pryor opposite Garcon. Resign Vernon Davis, add Leary as the LG and bring in Williams to complement Fat Rob the offense will be okay with a game manager.
By trading Cousins or letting some other team take him on defense you add a top 2 talent on the DLine, a Safety to pair with Cravens before you even mention free agents. By saving on Cousins we can use the money to sign Hankins, Lorenzo A., and Hightower in hopefully a Ryan styled defense.
I would take my chances with that my friend, regardless of the QB's name for one year. The QB draft class of 2018 is way better than this year.
