How many of those first year flash-in-the-pans built upon it their second year and their third year? I'll admit it's easier for coaches to tailor game plans that make their rookie qb's succeed these days, but it doesn't always translate to bigger and better things in their later years. The kind of qb Kirk is now, aka the stay-in-the-pocket, go through your progressions while still having solid pocket awareness to make things happen when the pocket collapses, kinda guy that he is, those style qb's take at least a couple years to mold.
