The market for QBs set the pay rate. QB is the most important position on the field and there aren't that many good ones to go around. I realize his pay isn't in the higher echelon of QB pay but it's close and it really shouldn't be. I would not pay it. Not when I can get about the same amount of production from a journey man or stop gap QB. Teams are finding out fast that overpaying QBs isn't the way to go. Texans, Jaguars, Bears to name a couple right off the back that have immediately regretted the contracts they signed. The market is set by bad owners and general managers. There should be a huge pay gap between an elite QB (or any other position) and an average one. Guys like Alex Smith should be paid what he was in KC. About 17mil/yr. which is something close to what Bortles is getting. Bortles shouldn't even be getting the average pay.
