Re: Look ahead to offseason
Personally, i believe the area we are lacking most in is depth. I really think we have made great strides this season and should have a fantastic base on which to build goin into the offseason.
The constant among teams that head to the playoffs year in and year out...is that they have guys waiting to step up...when a starter goes out with an injury. Now dont get me wrong...i believe that the coaches (primarily gregg williams) have done a fantastic job getting guys to step up...but i still dont think we are deep enough.
For example when you have 43 year old ray brown coming in to replace chris samuels you know there is a depth problem.
So here are the positions i would think about going after:
- Defensive end (possibly in a trade of patrick ramsey...although i really like him and wanted to see him succeed here, or else in the draft maybe 2nd round)
- Defensive Back: here i think it would be nice to just pick up an inexpensive solid free agent...not a star. Someone like R.W. Mcquarters who we had looked at this past offseason.
Oline help: in the draft i would like to see one olineman...and maybe a solid back up free agent added
D-line: I think we ought to maybe add a d-tackle through the draft (especially if we area able to get a real solid d-end in a trade)
Tight-end: this is just a luxury i thought would be real nice. Perhaps in the draft if we could get another weapon to compliment Cooley...it could be amazing to have two tight ends on the field. It would give oposing defenses fits in trying to figure out defensive schemes...and could open up alot of plays for us i feel...
Anyhow thats my two cents...let me know what you guys think.
