Re: Around the NFL - Off season / Combine / Draft thread
I am from the Draft Big Guys draft philosophy. Controlling the line of scrimmage is fundamental and makes everything else easier. Especially having a dominating solid offensive line. Which has been a weakness the last few years.
IF (big IF) OL Jonah Williams from Alabama drops like some are rumoring and is available at 15, we have to take him and start him at LG.
He is a clone of Brandon Scherff. Considered the best OL in the draft, 4 year starter at Alabama, played LT in college. Excellent at both run blocking and pass blocking. No weakness' in his game and was a top 10 draft talent before the combine.
At the combine his arms measured 33 5/8 inches, a little short of the 34-inch mark some idiot "experts" say is critical for playing left tackle in the NFL. Probably just other teams that want him are blowing smoke to try and get him to drop.
but he might also drop from the top 10 because this O-line class is deeper than previously thought and several O-Lineman shined at the combine: Andre Dillard, Jawaan Taylor, Erik McCoy, etc.
Plus with the usual QB's desperate reaches some dumb teams will make.
Then there is TE TJ Hockenson that some mock draft now have him moving up into top 10. Not me have you, but others are saying.
Even if Jonah Williams is gone at 15 and there is no stud edge rusher, I still say draft an O-lineman. At 15 there will be several good starters to pick from. O-Line is critical and there should be no weakness at the five positions.
That is why we should not give up the 15th pick.
