Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Let’s not be too hard on Snyder for breaking his “never change the name” promise. Here are his other (unspoken) “nevers” —
I’ll never draft a #1 who isn’t interested in hanging around with me at my mansion.
I’ll never hire an executive who disagrees with my decisions.
I’ll never hire a PR person who speaks honestly to the press.
I’ll never get over my giddy delusion that I’m in charge of the 1980s era team.
I’ll never believe that we’re more than one draft or one hire away from being a playoff team.
I will never admit that I’m responsible for turning this franchise into an embarrassment.
If Snyder won’t sell, then the next best thing is to break him, and this rebranding (whatever you think about the cultural shifts that led to it) may do that.
I still have a worry that he will f up the rebranding, but let’s keep the pressure on. For me that means, minimally (1) burgundy and gold, (2) “Red” in the name. There’s already a Warriors franchise, and personally I’d rather be Wolves fan than a Tails fan. Better to howl when we score than . . . shake our butts?
