That's the biggest argument against spending a lot at MLB, making sure we don't cancel out the 3rd round pick we have coming our way for Scherff.

Not saying this is not a valid argument.
But for me potentially leaving a
gaping hole in the middle of our defense outweighs the
value of a 3.5 round pick (compensatory picks should be called that way in my view, they come at the end of the round and before the next one).
With so many people yearning for a
switch to a 4-3 defense because it would fit our roster better (which may have been overblown but was still a reasonable argument IMO), I'm surprised some seem to be ok-ish with having such a
weak LB squad for a 3rd season in a row.
