Excuse me, but first the Eagles replaced Trotter with Lavon Kirkland who was so far over the hill that he could not see the top of the hill over his shoulder. What happened to them? They made it to the NFC championship game.
That year, Trotter was NOT hurt. He led the Redskins to what? My memory is fading here...
Last year, the Eagles signed Simonteau. He's the worst starting LB in the league according to you. What did the Eagles do? They made it to the NFC championship game. And Trotter led the Redskins to - - five wins and a high draft pick and his ticket out of town unless he takes a 75% pay cut.
Trotter is a good - but nothing better than good - linebacker. If he gets released in June - as he likely will - watch and see how many teams compete with each other to sign him to a big time deal. The over/under number for those teams is ONE. I'll take UNDER. He will sign on with a team for a huge pay cut and he'll be a good - but nothing better than that - linebacker for that money.
Trotter looked better than he actually is with the Eagles because their defensive scheme makes players look good. Other players have left that defense and been less than advertised. Look at Hugh douglass last year for one example; there are others... Trotter fell in love with his stats and his press clippings - as it seems you have - and he priced himself in the Ray Lewis/Brian Urlacher/Junior Seau category. (That's the Junior Seau of three years ago; not the Junior Seau of today.) And Trotter's not that good. Can he play? Yes he can. Will he sign with the Skins for about $800K per year. Not a chance? Is that about what he'll get elsewhere? Pretty close...
