You're overthinking this nonniey. It is so fucking simple - he's got history with previous charges against him, his house is chock full of bribery payouts, he's the head of the Senate foreign relations committee so he holds tremendous influence. There's more red flags here than in China. If he's guilty (which I believe he is) he needs to be locked up and removed from office.
It's that simple. Corrupt politicians are bad. Don't overthink this.
