I like the way Winskins put it! Joe Jackson Gibbs is
the president & head coach of the Washington Redskins. He always said his mission was to set up the
organization so that it would win on a
sustained basis. That means:
- upgraded talent on the field
- upgraded coaching for superior game planning and talent evaluation
- rational salary cap structure.
So to answer your questions:
- As the leader,he sets the tone, sets the goals, gets everyone, including the front office, moving in the same directions as a cohesive unit. Building teams is a full time effort.
- He will stay as president for his five year contract. No one ever expected he would coach for those five years. You best believe both Gregg and Al know who's the boss! Gibbs is the only man Snyder respects enough to keep his hands off talent decisions.
- Daniel Snyder became a good owner the day he hired Joe Gibbs -- and left him alone to remake the team. After the playoffs, Gibbs was asked the reason why the Skins did so well. He listed Daniel Snyder as #1 on his list. Look at how aggressively the Skins moved this offseason. A lot of that credit has to rub off on Snyder.
- In the NFC East, I worry most about the Giants. Their FA moves are focused on the secondary. Their DBs could be attacked last year, especially if you held off their pass rush. Li'l Eli has more savvy and will be less prone to mistakes. Tiki Barber is the real reason that offense works. I don't know where Phily's head is. Donovan McNabb's interview during super bowl week revealed a lot more damage to the locker room than thought. May take Dr. Phil to fix it. Their FA moves are focused on the line and I can't believe they weren't more aggressive going for a WR (Keyshaun?). They are always a threat if McNabb is healthy and they recover from TO. Could be very tough if Lavar signs with them. Dallas' o-line problem will get a lot better when Flozell Adams returns. The Cowboys could score last season, but weren't consistent. They don't have the talent to keep TO happy, meaning that Owens could both help them and hurt them in a big way.
The Panthers, Jaguars, Bucs & Colts are on the schedule and bear watching.
