Re: USC Pro Day Results and Notes:

NFL | F. Matua Pro Day results
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 15:03:26 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports USC OG Fred Matua measured 6-2 3/8 and weighed 301 pounds at his Pro Day workout Sunday, April 2. (He ran his 40s in 5.06 and 5.19. For a guy over 300 pounds to run a 40-yard dash in a theoretical time under five seconds, he should shoot up draft boards.)** He also had a 30-inch vertical and 26 lifts. All 40-yard dash times were clocked electronically, which historically adds about .08 of a second to the actual time.

I don't know why someone decided to editorialize inside a KFFL news blurb, but some OL guys (like chris chester) can run sub 4.9 (4.83) at 300lbs (and chris might not even be drafted until round 4 even though he can play C, OG, and TE). Speed is nothing without solid football skills, and Matua is still quite solidly in the #6 OG spot this year (round 3-4).

**Also i believe the sensor REDUCES time (no human reaction time unlike with stopwatches), making the 40 times better by .08 seconds instead of worse, so the part in parentheses is probably wrong.
