The Colts
had to sign Wayne to a monster contract -- he was a free agent, and it's vital that every team have not one, but two capable wideouts who have developed chemistry with the quarterback that's been throwing to them for the past 5+ years. Having two dominant wideouts on the level of Harrison and Wayne makes it absolutely critical for the Colts to stay at the top of the league, and breaking up that tandem could be the difference in making it to the Championship game and just barely making the wild card.
