Just about every contract we see signed by these guys will probably feel like "holy crap, how much is he getting???" It's just a product of the cap going up.
Besides, we all know that rookie salaries are dictated by what the picks in front and behind those players are getting. There's a bit of a rookie scale.
Does Vernon Davis deserve to be the highest paid TE? Hell no, which is exactly why guys like Gates, Gonzalez, Heath Miller, and Kellen Winslow will all get huge ass paydays when their contract comes due. All this does is raise the market value of a TE up from where it was last year, which makes sense since the cap went up.
