The groin is the area of the body where your abdomen joins your thighs. Mild pain in this area could become a serious problem. Long- term groin pain should be medically evaluated. The groin pain can be caused by a variety of reasons.

A groin strain is a stretch, tear, or complete rupture of the muscle called the adductor longus, which runs from the pubic bone to the inside of the thigh bone. Symptoms include stabbing pain, bruising, swelling, and the inability to draw your leg inward. Groin strains recur often if they never fully heal.

Minor strains can be treated with rest, ice, compression, and elevation, a regimen known as RICE. More serious strains call for both RICE and medical care. Recovery time ranges from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the severity of the injury.
