Now, the defense was really what enabled the Eagles in their NFC Championship years -- I think there's been a steady, moderate decline in the overall capability of their D, but it's still a force to be reckoned with.

Not sure how much of a decline there really is on defense. Darren Howard is there now, so the pass rush will be strong. The LBs have always been weak outside of Trotter. And the secondary is still young and strong. Dawkins is the only one you might say is aging, and he's still good.
They don't have Corey Simon anymore, so where the D may have dropped off is at DT.
