Re: The Greatest Redskins Team of All-Time ?

The 1983 team was something to behold. They were dominant offensively and in terms of national and local media were the most hyped that I can remember. Joe Theismann was on "Late Night with David Letterman" the week between the Rams and 49ers playoff games, believe it or not. That type of thing was typically reserved for Montana and the 49ers in those days. All that attention must have gone to their heads because they played like shite against the Raiders and therefore cannot be considered for greatest all time. What a waste.

The 1991 team was the most dominant Championship team that I have seen. They could quite conceivably have won all their games that year. Very balanced offensively and strong in all three phases.

The 1982 team was very good and lost only once in that strike-shortened season but played a lot of close games. To me, they were the most fun to watch.

The 1987 team was probably the least dominant of the three SB Champions. They were up and down, going back and forth between Williams and Shroeder all year and were fortunate in two respects. First, the Vikings beat the 49ers who had a great team, allowing the Redskins to host the NFC Championship. Second the Broncos managed to beat Marty's Browns who I believe would have made a much more difficult matchup for the Skins in the SB.

I'm sure if there were someone here old enough to remember 1937 or 1942 they could make a strong case for those teams. The 1942 team only lost one game (vs. N.Y. Giants 7-14). That was week 2. They won 10 straight after that. The 1937 team was 8-3.
