I am a die hard FAN of this team, and as much as I want them to win, I can also see their limitations. I commend believers for being able to maintain faith, but it's also a bit far fetched to think this team is performing anywhere close to championship level.

I could not disagree more.
My son's freshman HS team had a big "come from behind" win last thursday against a vaunted rival. With time RAPIDLY running out, the coach called the often used option play which the QB tossed to the wide out who then beat two tackles and took it to the hole (53 yards). During the last few minutes in the stands, 300ish parents generated the noise of 3000. Do they believe this team is championship caliber? Do we think their perfect? Do we think they don't need changes? No, just an average HS team. We are fans and, as such, refuse to give up. Nothing is gained from trying to pick apart all that is good or can be. Something can be gained from continued support, and teams can be inspired or willed to greatness through others.
It is the same for my Redskins. Believer? Hardly. Fan? Definately
