Re: I Love Joe Gibbs!!!!!!!!!
It’s great to see some positive thoughts finally creeping in. It’s time for us all to dig down deep and come together as a whole.
I have to admit though, that I am completely and utterly disgusted with some of our fans at this moment. This is not a direct criticism of anyone on this board, but rather a general opinion regarding comments I have observed over the past few days from various sources.
Never in my 24 years of being a Redskins fan have I witnessed such a total lack of respect for our organization and each other as well. The comments about Coach Gibbs are the ones that have bothered me the most. Most of these comments come from individuals who are young and have no clue as to who he is and what he has sacrificed both professionally and personally for this team. By no means do I think Coach Gibbs is perfect, but he is someone who deserves more respect than he is receiving right now. Leave the comments about his personal life out. They are not warranted and it makes you look foolish when you say them. Furthermore, I don’t believe that Joe Gibbs has to prove anything to anyone, period. There is a reason why he is the coach and we are not.
If we truly listened to some of the negative comments coming from some of the fans right now, then we should just go ahead and quit. Screw it all. Turn in our cards. Let’s build a big bonfire, throw in our jerseys and be done with it, all the while booing our players and calling for the heads of every staff member who wears the Redskins logo. Perhaps we should abandon the sport of football altogether, because according to them, this is the end of the world. Seriously, has everyone forgotten what team we’re a fan of? It’s the Washington Redskins. We will always be considered the underdog. It doesn’t matter what we do. This team has always struggled with consistency, but the one constant our team could always depend on was the fans. We always showed up no matter what the circumstances. This team has a long and valuable history. We’ve been here since the beginning. When Coach Gibbs says we are the greatest fans in the world, I believe him.
I attribute much of our frustration because of the society we live in today. Instant gratification is the norm. No one likes to work or sacrifice for anything anymore. It’s all about me. Hear me! Love me! I am entitled! No you’re not. You’re a fan damn it. Act like one – through the good and the bad. I am in no way implying that we aren’t allowed to be critical, but the sheer nastiness of some of our fans’ attitudes right now is ridiculous. I fear that if we continue down this path, then we will truly reap what we sow. So let’s stick to arguing the X’s and O’s and leave the other stuff at home.
I believe our time is coming. I have no doubt about that. If not this season, then the next. Whatever happens I will wear my colors proudly and I will never hold my head in shame. Call me a dreamer, a homer, or anything you like. It will not dissuade me from my opinion nor cause me to change my position. Because ultimately for me, whether this team sinks to the lowest gutter or stands proudly with a trophy in hand, I will be here supporting them all the way. It’s the tough times that make you stronger, tests what you are made of and makes the victories all the more sweeter.
