You're right about Carter and Archuletta, but you couldn't be more wrong about many other recent additions. I would count Marcus Washington, Shawn Springs, Cornelius Griffin, and Randy Thomas big impact FA signings who all played significant roles in getting us to the second round of the playoffs last year.

That said, I'm on record preferring the Philly/New England approach of stockpiling draft choices to build a team more inexpensively and to fill select needs through free agency. This regime places zero value on the draft and seems to feel that money can fill all needs. This approach has left us with precious little depth, and several players consuming more cap money than their actual worth.
