He was again voted Honorable Mention All-American and the Washington Redskins of the National Football League drafted him in the first round.
A junior academically, Rossi wasn't eligible for the draft yet and his selection was deemed illegal.
But the Redskins liked Rossi so much, they drafted him No. 1 again in 1947. Rossi was coming off another phenomenal season: he was named Honorable Mention All-American for the third straight year and played in the East-West Shrine game at Stanford.
The Shrine game turned out to be Rossi's last, however. He spurned the NFL for a life in education.
