Define bad. Brunell hasn't played bad, by most standards, if you are running a powerful run orientated ball control offense that week after week is gobbling up clock time on offense, while the defense is shutting teams down.
Look at Baltimore and McNair, NYG and Manning, San Diego and Rivers etc al. None of them HAVE to put up big numbers, but when they are down and have to go deep, they can. When they need a receiver to pick up 9 yards on 3rd down, they can.
Brunell may be good statistically and he may have made few mistakes, but nobody is scared of him. It's no good relying on Moss to get deep on 3rd and 10, you won't get time to throw it. You need to be able to get it to Lloyd or Randle-El on a 10 yard hook or a short post. We need a QB who can find the open man on 3rd down and hit him for the 1st. Brunell isn't doing that and nobody can tell me that's all down to the rest of the team.
