Maybe. However, I don't think what Doughty is going through with his son is really in the same league as someone's painful childhood that is in the past. A lot of pro athletes have the "rags to riches" story, overcame hardships, etc.
But as a parent, hearing about a guy with a non-guaranteed contract who has a premature baby in need of dialysis and an eventual kidney transplant, then the guy's already minimum salary gets docked for some BS "making contact with an official" in the preseason... it's pretty tough to swallow.
I would participate in some kind of fundraiser for the guy, frankly... considering how terrible the defense has been, and you only have to look at a guy like Reed who is just out there playing his heart out, I think he's a great example of the kind of guys you want on your squad right alongside the experienced vets.
IMO, high-priced free agency deals don't generate that kind of work ethic, passion, and fire.
