It isn't necessary for either Barrow or Arrington to play in the preseason if it means risking further injury. Of far greater importance is their ability to get on the field at 100% health come September 12th. I'd rather have a rusty, but healthy, Barrow and Arrington on the field for half the plays for a game, rather than push them out there in the preseason and risk not having them for multiple regular season games or possibly the entire season.

Let them get as healthy as possible, and in the meantime, give guys like Pierce, Smith, Campbell and Mitchell the opportunity to improve themselves, play with the starters for a while, and learn the system on the fly while the games don't count.

All of those guys, particularly Pierce, have shown some promise, and this is a great opportunity for Williams to get a more complete sense of what his backups' strengths and weaknesses are, so that he will know what kind of adjustments he needs to make if a starter goes down in the regular season.
