about 50% pan out. its the same rate as QBs and WRs. you should NEVER judge a guy after his rookie year though. alex smith had 1 td and 11 ints, but last year he was actually respectable. some guys just take a while longer to learn the NFL, and DEs and WRs are two of the positions that can take a couple years to get down.
how many killer DEs go on the FA market though? about the same number of elite LTs, which is maybe 1 per year, if you're lucky. Some times you've just gotta draft your own instead of hoping a stud falls out of the sky for you :/.
