You know your are correct. I had to think about it for a minute but this statement is dead on correct.
Jerry Jones' time with the Cowboys is a perfect "How To" and "How Not To" for other owners in the NFL.
The Good: JJ hired Jimmy Johnson and let him manage the team. Johnson stocked the team with great talent and they went on to win 3 super bowls.
The Bad: Once Dallas won their second SuperBowl, JJ in his ever present insecurity ran to any open microphone/Tv camera to try and take some of the credit. This pissed off Jimmy Johnson and Norv Turner and they bolted.
JJ then started to micro-manage the team and they went down hill fast.
The Good Again: He hired Parcells and let him manage the team. Parcells started to stock the team with good talent and got them in the playoffs two years in a row.
The Bad Again: JJ couldn't leave well enough alone and forced T.O on Parcells.
I really think owners like Snyder and Jones need to stay out of the day to day football related moves.
While Snyder is an exceptional bussinessman, he is clearly not a football man. He has certanly proven to be not a very good talent evaluater.
Frankly I am not sold on Gibss being a good GM yet, although he is doing a better job than Snyderatto/Spurrier.
