Plus they want to get a lot of game action for the youngsters who are fighting to make the team. I would imagine most coaches want to give the young guys a fair chance to make the squad and its tough to do if they are putting all the vet starters in for three or four quarters. I agree if not for the preseason alot of no named players woulod never get a chance. Like Stephen Davis, Lavernce Coles, ect... ect... You need the preseaon to find young undiscovered talent.
