But wouldn't you agree that whoever is being held out of the final preseason game has a lock on the roster anyway? Hence, the scrubs who are playing tonight have virtually no chance of making the squad and are purely filler just so the coaches can field a team. Granted, there are a few exceptions with certain players who are fighting it out until the very end to make it past the final cuts. But by and large, this is as meaning less as it gets.
I agree with your final point though. As long as fans still show up for preseason games, and as long as the ratings are good, nothing will change.
