just because you CAN free up another 10mill doesn't mean you should. when you restructure older players' base salaries to signing bonus, it just means high deadcap when they finally get released :/.

A TE franchise tag is only 4.5mill this year, and probably won't be much higher next year (unless gates gets a monster deal in the meantime, which is looming). It might even be better to use the space and jettison some dead weight now to give us more real room in the future...
