I've been going blue in the face trying to get people to understand this around these parts.
The Skins have cleared $10 million in cap space. Rookies will fit in about $3-$4 million of space. They're clearly preparing to take a big cap hit.
If they kept Springs, he'll cost $7.3 million as his contract stands now. If they trade him, he'll essentially cost us the same thing. So even after trading him, we'll still have $10 million in space. The writing is on the wall; they cleared this cap space to release somebody, absorb the hit now, and clear them off of our troubled 2008 and 2009 books. This move by the Skins in delaying Archuleta's payment is clearly a sign that the team is preparing to make a move.
He's as good as gone in my opinion.
