He's still a good cb, but when you throw in Springs and Smoot, that makes Rogers our 3rd best cb. This is not to say that Rogers sucks. Many teams wish they had a 3rd CB with Rogers talent.
Yes, he was OK his rookie season. Last year he was not the #1 until injuries put him there. He wanted the #1 role if you recall, and he sucked hard, being "thrusted" there is not the point, he proved he can't handle the pressure. It wasn't until the end of the season when they changed up his role that he did ok again. Our defense wasn't poor all season, our secondary was poor, it was poor because of Rogers not playing well, and getting no safety help. This hurt the overall D like dominoes. But it started with the secondary.
the defense wa indeed bad all year, they were bad in preseason and it carried over to the regular season. rogers was the #1 in the first game of the season. springs didn't play until week 4 or something like that and then rogers was once again the #1 when springs went out again a few weeks later. rogers was not ready to be the #1 cb and still probably isn't ready. smoot will tell everyone that he is ready for it but his play has never convinced me he's any better than a #2 cb. imo, springs should be the #1 cb. if you think smoot is a better cover corner then springs then your crazy. if the skins get rid of springs and bring in bly, then bly should be the #1 cb. once again i say smoot will have to battle rogers for the #2 cb spot.
