Re: Zack Piller ...

Big guy; hurt a lot; considered "surplus" in Tennessee; hasn't been a hot commodity in free agency.

That kind of summarizes what the state of play is regarding ZP. If he's healthy, he's probably better than any of the other "aspirants" to the LG position on the roster at the moment. But he's missed a ton of games in the past 3 seasons and he'd be of zero help if he's hurt.

I always worry about VERY LARGE players who develop leg injuries. They seem not to heal nearly as quickly nor as often as smaller players with leg injuries. My hypothesis is that being as heavy as they are, it is difficult for them to give the injury any real rest in the early stages of rehab because of the stress and strain they put on it by walking/standing. But I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in years.

Because I don't believe there are any outstanding candidates to start at LG on the roster at the moment, it would behoove the team to "upgrade" there. ZP is a small upgrade; if the FO thinks they cannot do better, they ought to sign him. If they think they can do better - and that's not REALLY all that difficult - then they should take a pass here.
