For a while now game systems have focused so hard on graphics, and control pads have gotten more and more complex, but the Wii is getting it done by scaling back the complexity and just making games flat out more fun.
I think the Wii will continue to appeal to a wide audience (novice and casual gamers), but for the hardcore gamers, you're probably right that they'll prefer systems with more control features and better graphics.
Now that I'm all old and have a family and whatnot, I appreciate the Wii because I just don't have the time to devote to games. So simplicity is king for me.
