Love is painful and love lost is even more painful. Looks like your mom ended up getting into a better situation. It's all really a matter of happiness. I firmly believe if you're are miserable in your relationship it's best to part company.
Of course you have to accept and live with your decision. Obviously when children are involved it is a lot harder but staying together for the sake of the children is just not good for ones mental health.
