I agree with your point. The press pinheads know nothing about playing a sport, they only write about it. They should not be deciding who goes into the Hall of Fame. It should be that players peers who decides who gets in.
The press and most USA sports fans in general only care about scoring and the flashy stats and headlines. On offense a great player (wr for example) gets double teamed and a lesser teamate will get more stats.
On defense they mostly judge players by sacks and interceptions, which is a big mistake. A lot of times a better teammate is getting double teamed because he is so great and another lesser player goes unblocked and get the glory sack. Same with DB's, the great CB or safety is avoided so they throw more to the lesser player. So his chances for interceptions is going to be higher. Stats should not be the main measure for who gets in and the press should not be the decider (borrowed made up word).
