No one has said he wasn't capable of throwing the ball the necessary distance. He can. The problem is the trajectory he has to use to get it there. On some routes, like the one to Santana, it doesn't hurt him because you like the ball coming in at steep angle. It gives Santana the chance to make a play. On others,like the floater he threw down the middle to Cooley that vaguely resembled a punt, the defense will either
a)intercept or b)put the receiver in the hospital.

My concern was that Collins could not make up for his lack of physical skills with smarts and system-knowledhge. I think he proved last night that he can do enough to be the backup. I still suspect that (assuming Brunell is not traded) they will hedge in some way to allow Mark to save face.
