True, but they Lions have almost NO running threat at all and the Redskins defensive game plan allowed the front to contain the run, which was easy against the 27th rank run offense that the Lions have.
The Patriots are ranked #7 in rushing offense and Maroney is back healthy again. You play nickel the whole game and your defense will be spent in the second half.
You can credit those 4th quarter losses this year to the defense being on the field too much in the second half, getting tired, and allowing teams to win. Remember those games where Washington had the lead at halftime only to lose the game? Defense was tired, offense had too many 3 and outs keeping the defense on the field too long.
If you think the defense can play nickel all day against the Pats, you will get burned.
You cannot use the Lions game as a defensive template for the Patriots.
