I'm paying you 30,000 dollars a year, and it's time for your yearly review. You've been an excellent part of my company and you've really helped us do a lot here! I'm prepared to offer you 18,000 dollars a year now. You've done so well you've earned a paycut. Congratulations.
Listen, none of us would EVER take that in our real lives, why should these guys? Granted the numbers are quite a bit higher, but if you were in his position you'd do the same damn thing. You want to give me a fraction of my previous salary, even though I had a pro-bowl callibre year?
Don't even lie and say that wouldn't piss you off, especially if you weren't exactly happy with the company. You'd go shopping.
Contracts in the NFL are meant to be broke. Mainly by owners, but I see absolutly no problem in a player asking to be released. If I were an owner I'd like to know who doesn't want to be there. I'd try to work it out with the player, but if I couldn't I'd probably release them. Simply because you want people who want to be there. Anyhow, I think Ty Law wants to make money (who can blame them, I don't see anyone crucifying LaVar after his outrageous contract, he's just trying to get his, right?)

I wasen't aware that new england want's him to take a pay cut, I thougt he just wanted to renegotiate, If they are asking him to take a pay cut then I would have to say coming off a SB win that's not right, but if he just stick's to his gun's he will get his wish and be released or traded or they will pay him the remainder of his contract.
