You have to take into account the human aspect of this defense. In the games where they faltered, they were physically exhausted. It was in those games that the offense could not stay on the field. You can't expect any D to be on the field the whole game and pitch a shutout.
I think this past Giants game was the only one, except the Lions game, where they got the 1st downs when they needed them...at the end of the game to kill the clock.
