I feel your pain. I've lost count of how many times I've made my family change their plans for birthday parties and other get-togethers because "I have to watch the Redskins!" They're always a little annoyed that I refuse to sacrifice "one Redskins game" for the sake of family events. Of course, most of the time, my Dad and my brother understand, being that they're both diehard Redskins fans, but my Mom and my sisters always give me a hard time about it.
Don't worry about it, beg8878, sometimes you have to take a stand like that, so that in the future, they'll know better than to involve you in their plans on Redskins gamedays! They'll eventually learn to design their plans around Redskins games-- that's what my family does now.
I know it sounds selfish, but the only thing I ask of my family is to accept my devotion to the Redskins as part of who I am. That means if they want to do something with me on gameday, they'd better make sure there's a TV there with the Redskins game on.
