Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate

I posted this in extremeskins, but I just need to vent and get this off my chest:

I grew up like many of you, watching the Redskins teams of the 80's. Those teams had character, they were like a family. Jack Kent Cooke was a great owner. He hired Bobby Beathard to make football decisions and he provided the financial support. Joe Gibbs was the coach with much of the same staff for a dozen or so years.

Joe Gibbs brought this type of climate back to the Skins. Especially during this past season, players truly bought in. Something special happened to this team after going through the horrible tragedy of losing Sean. Joe stabilized what had been a disaster during the many coaching and personnel changes that marked the Snyder years. We could all see that this organization was headed in the right direction.

I am sickened by what has occurred since Gibbs announced his retirement. Daniel Snyder is certainly no Jack Kent Cooke. He doesn't know football, he doesn't know people, and he doesn't know his limitations. I was hoping that he had learned from Gibbs over the past four years, as he said he had during Joe's retirement press conference. Apparently, he has learned nothing about how to build and maintain a winning program. Take a quick look at the successful teams in the league and you see a common thread, stability of players and stablility of coaching and philosophy. He also has learned nothing about being decent to people.

If the reports are accurate, that Snyder is not hiring Gregg Williams because of the 10 men on the field for the first play after Sean's death, then I can have no more hope for my team. I cannot believe that Gregg Williams would put Joe Gibbs down. Snyder appears to be creating excuses, and poor ones at that, so he doesn't have to hire Gregg.

Dan Snyder is quickly destroying all that Joe Gibbs had built up in four years. He is destroying the feeling that we fans had as we watched this team fight its way into the playoffs. He is destroying the sense of being a real "team" that these players have experienced under Joe Gibbs.

Thank you, Joe, for being here for the last four years. I got to enjoy being a fan of a team with coaches and players that I was proud of. Thank you for giving us all a feeling that we had long forgotten in years past.

I am afraid that we are going back to the dark days of the pre-Gibbs Snyder era with no end in sight.
