Yes the Redskins are historically a much more successful franchise than the Lions. And yes, those 4 and 5 game winning streaks orchestrated by Joe Gibbs which lead to wildcard berths have put us ahead of Detroit in what would otherwise be a nine-game difference since 2000.

While there's no denying that the Lions are consistently in the bottom third of the league, Washington doesn't do any better than hang around the middle.

I'd say they're closer than many of us want to believe.
