But my main form of worship was pounding the 'A' button on my NES controller into submission as I drove "cyber-Bo" through piles of defenders on 90-yard gallops, tossing bodies through the air as he blasted his way to the end zone in Tecmo Super Bowl. I think I was probably one of those gamers that approached 1,000 yards rushing in a single game on at least one occasion.
Being the loyal Bo fan that I am, I don't like the way this writer portrays the real Bo as a mere shadow of his cyber counterpart. Bo Jackson as a player was larger than life. He was one of those rare football players-- Barry Sanders is another that comes to mind-- that made you sit on the edge of your seat when you watched him play, because you knew that on any given play, he could take it the distance-- even when it looked like the defense had him locked down, cornered and beaten. You knew that Bo could find a way out of it. When he did, it was breathtaking to watch.
