My question is, why does the NFL care what number people wear in the Pro Bowl? Theoretically, 20 ProBowlers could have the number 55, but that's okay because it's their normal number. For Pro Bowl purposes only, why not let players wear any number any year? Since Favre isn't playing because of injury, maybe Hasslebeck or Garcia would like to wear #4 as a tribute to him. I'm not saying they should, just that they should have the right to switch numbers for the Pro Bowl.
It would be impossible to tell the players apart aside from QBs, RBs and WRs.

So 3 LBs have #55 on the field at the same time. You know "that #55 plays for this team, the other #55 plays for that team...)

If they start wearing different numbers, even with their team's helmets on, it would be a little tough to tell who people are when you're used to knowing them by a different #.

I guess that's why the league is so tough on it.
